More than the size of the dent
A small door ding and a sharp crease can involve very different repair conditions. The shape of the damage, its location and the panel material all matter. A dent close to an edge or body line may present a different problem from one in an open area of the panel.
Clear photographs can introduce the damage, especially when they show the surrounding panel and more than one angle. They cannot establish access behind the panel or every condition affecting the finish. Those details are part of deciding whether paintless repair is a realistic option.
The paint and repair history
Paintless dent repair aims to address the panel without a conventional repaint. The condition of the existing coating is therefore important. Cracked paint, previous filler or earlier refinishing may change the method available, even where the visible dent resembles one on another vehicle.
Known repair history helps establish that starting point. A wrapped panel can also conceal details of the finish beneath it. The assessment needs to account for what is actually present, rather than rely on an assumption that the area has its original, undamaged coating.
Choosing a defined repair
If paintless repair is suitable, its proposed scope still needs to be clear. Some damage may require conventional bodywork or refinishing instead, and a vehicle with several dents may not have the same answer for every panel. The method follows the condition of each area.
An owner benefits from an explanation of the expected result and any work that will remain. Availability of paintless repair is established for the individual job; this guide does not promise that every dent can be removed without paintwork.
