Appearance does not establish alignment
A door that fits differently, an unusual wheel position or distorted body gaps after an impact can indicate an area that needs assessment. These observations are useful, but they are not a diagnosis. A vehicle can require further inspection even when the exterior damage appears limited.
Photographs record visible condition; they do not measure a frame or unibody structure. An earlier inspection or tow report can provide context, particularly where parts have already been removed. The assessment still needs to identify the specific components and the extent of the damage.
Construction determines the available methods
Vehicles use different structural designs, materials and joining methods. The manufacturer information for the model governs repair limits and replacement procedures. Straightening, partial replacement and replacement of a complete assembly are distinct operations, not interchangeable ways to reach the same appearance.
Measurement and inspection access help establish the work required. Structural project acceptance depends on the vehicle, the damaged areas and any specialist work required. Assessment and transport arrangements belong to that specific job, rather than a general assumption about what a body shop can repair.
A repair plan that can be followed
A useful plan identifies the parts involved, the proposed method and the relevant checks. Where measurements or another assessment support the decision, the available records help explain it. Repair feasibility is a separate question from the insurer's financial determination of a total loss.
At completion, records should relate to the operations actually performed, rather than simply state that the vehicle looks straight. Keeping the invoice and supplied reports together preserves that explanation. This guide is an introduction to the process, not a way to assess structural condition or decide whether a damaged vehicle can be driven.
