Call the shop before planning an arrival outside regular hours. Agree on the vehicle, arrival time and key handoff before leaving it.
What to confirm on the call
Whether the vehicle can arrive outside regular hours at all, and on which days. Exactly where it should be left. What happens to the keys, and whether anything needs to be signed first.
Whether anything about the vehicle changes the answer. A camper van, a trailer, a smaller motorhome or a vehicle that cannot be driven all raise questions about access and space that a car does not.
If the vehicle is being brought by someone else
Give the driver the full street address, 10810 Talbert Avenue, Fountain Valley, CA 92708, rather than a shop name. Have the driver read the address back before transport.
Tell the shop who is bringing it, when, who can authorize the work, and which phone number should get the questions. A vehicle that arrives with nobody attached to it is the slowest kind of arrival.
Before you leave it
Take your registration, insurance documents, garage remote, toll transponder and anything valuable with you. Photograph the vehicle where it stands, all four sides, before you walk away.
Leave a note with your name, phone number and one line on what the vehicle is there for, and put your name and number on the keys. Confirm separately, by phone, that it arrived.
